The journey to an LLC

2-14-2025

Website is done for now. I've asked myself multiple times why I’m doing this. Back in January 2024, I had the idea of starting my own archery repair shop, primarily focusing on string replacement, setups, and lessons. As my "About Us" section states, I’ve been working on people’s equipment—family and friends—for years, so I figured, why not turn my hobby into a small business if I can?

I started out going all in, YouTube, planning to film hunts, and doing all the things you see people on TV doing. So, I spent most of 2024 buying camera gear and other essentials for the business. When hunting season came around, I filmed my first five or six hunts. For me, I really struggled with the filming part. It wasn’t enjoyable, and on top of that, I had a ton of gear to carry in, set up, and tear down. By October, I decided filming hunts wasn’t something I was going to do regularly. I began to focus more on the other aspects of the business and set up my LLC.

That leads me back to the question I’ve asked myself a lot: Why am I doing this? I’ve come to two conclusions:

  1. I’ve yet to find an archery pro shop that will spend enough time with you to properly set up your bow. How many times, before I had my first bow press, did I go to a pro shop, have them replace my strings, and then get home to find that the peep is turned, or it’s just not in the correct spot, or my center shot is off? For me, the closest pro shop is 45 minutes away without traffic. So, years ago, I overcame this by buying my first press, which led to a bow vise, then a draw board, then a new parallel limb-style press, then an arrow cutter, fletching jigs, a paper tuner setup, and so on.
  2. I deeply love this stuff and always have. I really hope that someday I can retire and just focus on solely this.

Now, thinking about the camera gear, I’m considering filming the bows I work on and talking through the process of what I do and how I do it, but time will tell if I incorporate that. Either way, I’m enjoying this part-time adventure and hope to assist as many people in my community as I can—all for the love of a stick and string.

Regards,
Justin
